We will be exploring a wide-range of mixed media techniques in this live, online workshop being held on Facebook on Tuesday May 10 from 1:00-4:00pm Eastern. Together we will create a series of mixed media booklets filled front to back with abstract, organic, layered pages. The emphasis will be on letting go, moving beyond your comfort zone, and creating without thinking. We will focus on technique and process, allowing the pages to naturally unfold and working on not being overly attached to the outcome.
In the initial part of the class, we will work the surface of both paper and fabric to create the base for your pages as well as the collage material to be used on these pages later in class. Without an advanced plan, we will use paint, ink, and other mediums to build our layers and develop the visual story for our booklets. Collaging, mark making, and hand stitching follow to further develop and enhance our surfaces. With each of these techniques, we will attempt to identify our own personal voice and artistic approach. Ultimately all these steps and all your pages will be stitched together to create our artist booklets.
