A zokin is a cleaning cloth in Japan. Historically, worn-clothes would be repurposed by cutting the fabric into squares and hand-stitching them into layers. These items were then saved to use later as cloths for cleaning. This item was made in a rural region of Japan from vintage scraps and has not been used. It has been stitched together with sashiko embroidery adding to its beauty and rustic charm. While in excellent condition, small imperfections may be evident. This item is one-of-a-kind and measures just under 13 x 11.25 inches.
Sashiko - “little stabs” is a Japanese folk art and hand-embroidery technique that involves stitching in a repeating pattern of running stitches and which is a form of functional and decorative embroidery.
